Why require that a doctor or other medical professional approve cases?
Pennsylvania requires that all potential medical malpractice cases be approved by a doctor or other medical professional in an effort to cut back on the number of unnecessary lawsuits. This has been effective in reducing the number of medical malpractice cases filed in the state. Having a doctor or medical professional certify a case means that there may actually be a question of whether the doctor breached a duty of care in treating the patient.
