What does it mean to settle?
Settling means that the parties involved in a lawsuit agree to meet outside of a courtroom to agree upon monetary damages for the injured party, rather than having a long battle in court. The settlement may come with a number of rules that court-awarded damages might not have attached to them. A plaintiff’s lawyer is with him or her the entire time and will advise the best course of action based on what is on the table.
