A 33-year-old healthcare worker from Michigan is being charged with causing an outbreak of hepatitis C in New Hampshire.

The worker was employed as a lab technician at Exeter Hospital, where the outbreak occurred, between April 2011 and June 2012. During that time, he knowingly infected at least 30 patients with the hepatitis C virus by using contaminated needles.

According to officials, the man stole syringes that contained the drug fentanyl and injected himself. He then used the same needles, filled with saline solution, and administered the solution to unsuspecting individuals. The healthcare worker had been diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2010.

The charges against the man include tampering with a consumer product and using fraud to obtain a controlled substance.
