Veteran Sues VA Hospital

Posted on Monday, July 6th, 2009 at 2:51 am

Barry Lackro was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2004. In October of that year, doctors at the VA Hospital in Philadelphia attempted surgery to remove his prostate after he gave them information that makes such a surgery a dangerous option.

More recently, Lackro was among the 92 patients who had brachytherapy that went wrong at the same hospital. In Lackro's case, the radiation meant for his prostate ended up in his bladder, causing terrible complications. He recently filed a claim against the federal government because of these issues.

GA Supreme Court Overturns Malpractice Ruling

In 2003, a boy was taken to the hospital for severe headache, vomiting and fever. Three pediatricians and an emergency room doctor failed to diagnose Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever because of a failure to get a detailed medical history.

The boy recovered after being transferred to an Atlanta hospital. The parents sued the four physicians, but in 2006, a state court jury ruled in favor of the doctors. Recently, however, the state Supreme Court overturned that ruling and found in favor of the parents of the victim.
