Pharmaceutical Error

Posted on June 5th, 2009 1 Comment

Medical malpractice occurs in a variety of ways. Botched surgeries often spring to mind when malpractice comes up, but pharmaceutical errors can be just as detrimental.

When a person receives the wrong medication, it can have severe effects. The patient can react to the medication in ways that can cause permanent damage or even death.

Woman Wins Malpractice Case for Husband

A Dunmore woman was awarded $1.88 million by a Lackawanna County jury for a medical malpractice suit filed on behalf of her husband. The suit alleged that Wayne Memorial Hospital and two of its doctors failed to diagnose the man's bladder cancer.

The husband died in 2008 from the cancer. One of the doctors found an enlarged prostate but did not look into it any further, allowing the cancer to spread. When it was finally found, he underwent surgery and was soon told that his cancer was untreatable. He died shortly thereafter.
