A Massachusetts woman has won a $6.4 million dollar lawsuit in a medical malpractice case. The woman claims that she suffered brain damage during her pregnancy when her doctor failed to treat her condition of preeclampsia. Preeclampsia is a condition in pregnant women that can cause high blood pressure if left untreated.
In this case, the pregnant woman's preeclampsia went untreated by the doctor and caused a serious injury. The untreated condition then led the woman to suffer a brain bleed during the pregnancy. The brain bleed then caused the woman brain damage. The baby was delivered safely, however the mother did suffer from her injuries.

A newborn at the Boston Medical Center is lucky to be alive after a medical mistake. The newborn baby girl was accidentally given a large dose of morphine. The dose of morphine was nearly three times greater than the proper dosage. This overdose of medicine could of had fatal consequences, but luckily the baby did not die from the incident.
The parents of the baby are very upset at the incident. The hospital has apologized for the mistake, claiming that it was just a single instance of a break down in the procedure. The parents have said that although they were given an apology, it doesn't take away from the fact that their new born was almost killed by a preventable accident.

A jury has recently awarded a Dallas man over $7 million dollars in a case of medical malpractice. The jury found one of the man's physicians negligent in the treatment of his patient. The man was admitted to the hospital for an ulcer surgery. While there the man developed an MRSA infection , which is a type of staph infection.
The doctors failed to recognize that the man had an MRSA infection until it was too late. Because of this misdiagnosis, the man had to be transferred to another hospital. At the other hospital, the man had both his arms and both his legs amputated.
The jury had originally awarded the man over $17 million dollars, with $11 million dollars for pain and suffering. Unfortunately, a Texas law places a cap of $250,000 on the amount an individual can receive in medical malpractice trials for pain and suffering. A flaw in the law can be seen since this is a particularly devastating loss for the individual.
