Symptoms of MRSA

MRSA, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, is a virulent bacteria that can cause serious health problems. Non-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, known commonly as “staph,” occurs naturally throughout our environment and is normally not harmful. However, some strains of staph have evolved to become more harmful and resistant to basic medications, making them more difficult to ward off following an infection.

Common Signs of MRSA

A MRSA infection can take a serious toll on the body if it is not dealt with promptly. Individuals who contract MRSA usually pick it up in areas with a lot of people that are not kept sufficiently clean, such as hospitals, gyms, locker rooms, and schools. You may have MRSA if you show signs of:

  • Skin boils: infected hair follicles
  • Abscesses on the skin: pus collected under the skin
  • Sties: infected eyelid oil gland
  • Impetigo: skin infection with raised blisters
  • Rash: red skin patches on the body that may be painful or not

If you notice any of these symptoms, be sure to seek medical attention as soon as possible. A doctor can help to determine whether you have an MRSA infection and can prescribe the best possible treatment. If you suspect that you contracted the infection because of someone’s negligence, such as a hospital facility or gym with unsanitary conditions, you may be able to file a medical malpractice lawsuit against those responsible.
